What's a standby generator? A standby home generator keeps your power on during an outage. It’s installed outside of your house or business (similar to an AC unit) and comes on automatically — whether you’re home or away, all within seconds of a power outage.
Plus, residential and some light commercial generators run on propane or natural gas.

How it all Works

KOHLER® home generators start and stop automatically.

The transfer system monitors the voltage coming from the utility.

When the power fails or drops below an acceptable level (brown out), the generator automatically starts, and the transfer switch shifts your power from the utility to the generator.

Your KOHLER home generator supplies your home with electricity until the utility power is restored.

When the utility power is restored, the transfer switch automatically transfers power back from the generator to the utility.

Automatic Transfer Switch

Before the power goes out, your automatic transfer switch (ATS) monitors the electricity coming from the utility. RDT / RXT

Generator

When the power fails or drops below an acceptable level (brownout), the ATS signals the generator to start. In seconds, the ATS transfers your power from the utility to the generator.
